Coris is building an integrated merchant risk platform for the fastest growing SaaS and fintech companies around the world. As part of this mission, we’re excited to offer Coris’s products and services in 42 more countries. This means that Coris is now available in 46 countries in total, and covers over 70% of SMBs in the world1.

Why we’re going global

Our typical customers are SaaS companies that offer software products and embedded payments services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) around the world. For each market they operate in, these companies need to adapt their merchant identification and risk policies to the local context: for example, they need to use local data sources to verify merchants at onboarding, and assess them for various risks on an ongoing basis.

This often involves teams of risk professionals combing through government databases and a company’s online footprint (company website, social media profiles, and consumer reviews) in order to assess its legitimacy and business viability. It’s an extremely manual and expensive process that not only slows down a SaaS company’s international expansion efforts, but also provides a subpar experience to their merchants.

Cassandra Goerdt, who leads the payments risk function at MindBody, has heard this frustration from her team. From their perspective, “The lack of seamless availability of information makes it extremely challenging to validate merchant accounts when onboarding internationally. This requires us to manually and frequently reach out to merchants and gather documentation to complete verification. This is not only labor intensive for us, but it also creates additional friction for our merchants.”

Currently, there is no truly global solution to help companies source accurate data on SMB customers and monitor their business activities in an automated manner. After successfully launching in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia recently, we decided to address this gap and expand Coris’s offering to 42 more countries.

Where we’re going

After reviewing dozens of customer requests and analyzing pain points across geographies, we’ve decided to launch in the following markets:

  • Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE
  • Asia Pacific & Oceania (APAC): China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand
  • Latin America (LATAM): Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico

What we’re offering

For the first time, companies operating in these markets will be able to use one platform to automatically access merchants’ business registration information, online reputation data, and other critical attributes with just two pieces of information: the merchant’s name and location.

By using Coris, globally-minded SaaS companies and payment facilitators can significantly decrease the time and increase the accuracy of their merchant underwriting, data enrichment initiatives, and ongoing risk monitoring processes.

Specifically, Coris will offer the following capabilities from three of our core products:

  • Merchant Profiler: GPT-4 powered MCC and NAICS code prediction via Merchant Real Industry; website professionalism rating via SiteRating; consumer reviews from global review platforms (Google, Yelp, Facebook) and local platforms (>50 platforms); and hundreds of website attributes, such as checking for the presence of prohibited or restricted keywords on merchant websites
  • MerchantWatch: Ongoing monitoring of critical merchant business signals such as website shutdown, business closure, or a drastic change in customer sentiment
  • Orchestration platform: Development of custom risk strategies and action triggers based on merchant data collected on the Coris platform

What’s next?

We’ll continue to roll out additional features in each of these countries and expand to even more markets in the months to come. If you’d like to learn more or request a new country for coverage, please contact us.
